Vol. 524 No. 3

Written Answers. - Public Transport.

Willie Penrose

Question:

108 Mr. Penrose asked the Minister for Public Enterprise if her attention has been drawn to the fact that the EU special support programme for peace and reconciliation funding was vital in getting a cross-Border community group, which provides flexible community transport to meet the needs of people with transport difficulties in north Leitrim, west Cavan and south-west Fermanagh, off the ground and that funding runs out on 31 December 2000; if she will ensure that additional interim funds for this and other innovative community transport projects are forwarded either by her Department or in combination with other Departments until the funding for rural transport projects designated in the national development plan becomes available in mid 2001; and if she will make a statement on the matter. [22415/00]

I am aware of the good work being carried out by Rural Lift in the provision of community transport services in north Leitrim, west Cavan and south-west Fermanagh.

The group was in touch with me recently regarding funding for these services and this is being examined within my Department.
