Question:

227 Mr. Creed asked the Minister for Agriculture, Food and Rural Development the amount of milk quota leased in 1998-99 by farmers with quota of (i) 35,000 gallons or less, (ii) 35 - 55,000 gallons and (iii) 55,000 gallons or over; and the amount of milk offered for purchase to each of these categories of farmer under the new milk quota regulations. The amount of milk allocated to farmers in question from the 1999-2000 temporary leasing scheme was as follows:

Category I – producers with quotas of less than 35,000 gallons

35.1 million gallons

Category II – producers with quotas from 35,000 to 55,000 gallons

22.8 million gallons

Category III – producers with quotas of more than 55,000 gallons

5.2 million gallons

Total

63.1 million gallons.

The estimated quantities of milk quota allocated under the 2000 restructuring scheme are as follows:
