Vol. 524 No. 5

Written Answers. - PAYE Allowance.

Michael Noonan

Question:

253 Mr. Noonan asked the Minister for Finance the estimated cost of increasing the PAYE allowance to £3,600, payable at the standard rate; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [23317/00]

I am advised by the Revenue Commissioners that the cost to the Exchequer, estimated by reference to an income tax year based on 2001 incomes, of the change mentioned by the Deputy is £622.4 million in a full year. This estimate is provisional and is likely to be revised.
