Vol. 524 No. 5

Written Answers. - Tax Rates.

Michael Noonan

Question:

254 Mr. Noonan asked the Minister for Finance the estimated cost of introducing a tax rate of 35% for a £2,000 tranche of income between the present standard and higher rates; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [23318/00]

I am advised by the Revenue Commissioners that the cost to the Exchequer, estimated by reference to an income tax year based on 2001 incomes, of converting the first £2,000 of the higher rate band to a 35% band is £94 million in a full year. This estimate is provisional and is likely to be revised.
