Vol. 524 No. 5

Written Answers. - Hospital Waiting Lists.

Bernard Allen

Question:

274 Mr. Allen asked the Minister for Health and Children the reason a person (details supplied) in County Cork is waiting over two years for rehabilitation at the National Rehabilitation Unit, Dún Laoghaire, County Dublin, as a result of a stroke she suffered during surgery in the Cork University Hospital; and the further reason she is awaiting treatment from the Cork University Hospital which promised to treat her with intensive physiotherapy and occupational therapy but have failed to do so to date and which stated that she might have to wait a further three to four months before she will received that treatment. [22893/00]

The Deputy will appreciate that the scheduling of admission to hospital is in the first instance a matter for the relevant patient's clinician to determine. I have asked the chief executive at the Eastern Regional Health Authority, which has responsibility for the provision of services at the National Rehabilitation Hospital, to look into the matter and reply directly to the Deputy as a matter of urgency.

In relation to the persons treatment at Cork University Hospital, I have asked the chief executive officer at the Southern Health Board, which has responsibility for the provision of services at Cork University Hospital, to examine the issues raised by the Deputy and reply directly to him as a matter of urgency.
