Vol. 524 No. 5

Written Answers. - Care of the Elderly.

Michael Ring

Question:

277 Mr. Ring asked the Minister for Health and Children the reason the Western Health Board refused to rewire a house for a person (details supplied) in County Mayo under the special housing aid for the elderly scheme in view of the fact that the house was last wired 50 years ago, is a potential fire hazard and this person is only in receipt of an invalidity pension and cannot pay for the works. [22896/00]

As the Deputy may be aware, the housing aid scheme is administered in the Mayo area by the Western Health Board on behalf of the Department of the Environment and Local Government.

I have asked the chief executive officer of the authority to examine this case and respond to the Deputy as a matter of urgency.
