Vol. 524 No. 5

Written Answers. - Services for People with Disabilities.

John McGuinness

Question:

284 Mr. McGuinness asked the Minister for Health and Children if he is in receipt of an application for funding from the South Eastern Health Board regarding the provision of a purpose built centre for the Irish Wheelchair Association in County Carlow; if he will expedite the application; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [23131/00]

Decisions in relation to capital expenditure for the development of services for people with physical and sensory disabilities are a matter for the relevant health board in consultation with the regional co-ordinating committees on physical and sensory disability services and reflect the priorities which have been agreed for that region. Under the national development plan, a total of £10.62 million has been identified for capital expenditure for physical and sensory disability services in the South Eastern Health Board area for the years 2000-2006.

The South Eastern Health Board has recently advised the Department that the provision of an adult day centre for people with physical and sensory disabilities in Carlow is being considered for funding under the NDP in 2001.
