Vol. 524 No. 5

Written Answers. - Hospital Development Programme.

Willie Penrose

Question:

356 Mr. Penrose asked the Minister for Health and Children if he has examined the Longford-Westmeath General Hospital phase 2B capital development brief; if he has satisfied himself that the areas on the intensive care unit, coronary care unit, rehabilitation unit, acute psychiatric unit and the child and adolescent psychiatry unit will be sufficiently advanced in the phase 2B programme as currently planned; if his attention has been drawn to the fact that the phase 2B brief concedes that more attention should be paid to these areas; the steps he will take to ensure that these vital departments are included in view of the fact they are necessary facilities for the day to day medical care of the increasing population of Longford and Westmeath; and if he will make a statement on the matter. Question:

365 Mr. Penrose asked the Minister for Health and Children if he will ensure that important facilities (details supplied) are included in the phase 2B development of Longford-Westmeath hospital and are not delayed or pushed downstream to future phase or phases in view of the fact these are vital services urgently required; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [23367/00]

I propose to take Questions Nos. 356 and 365 together.

I have yet to receive the Longford-Westmeath General Hospital Phase 2B capital development brief. The Midland Health Board is currently finalising the brief for this development and hope to be in a position to submit it to my Department shortly.

Question No. 357 taken with Question No. 341.
