Vol. 524 No. 5

Written Answers. - Farm Assist Scheme.

Michael Ring

Question:

394 Mr. Ring asked the Minister for Social, Community and Family Affairs the full breakdown of the way in which a person (details supplied) in County Mayo was assessed for the farm assist scheme. [22906/00]

A deciding officer assessed the weekly means of the person concerned at £15, from 26 July 2000, derived from income from a holding. This assessment entitled him to a farm assist payment at the weekly rate of £62.50.

His weekly means were calculated as follows:

£

Output from a holding, yearly value

2,905.00

Less expenses

1,905.00

Net Yearly Value

1,000.00

@ 80%

800.00

Weekly means (rounded to nearest £)

15.00

Following a change in the farm assist scheme, which reduced the assessable means from 80% to 70% of the net yearly value of a holding, a deciding officer assessed the weekly means of the person concerned at £13, from 27 September 2000. This assessment entitles him to payment at the weekly rate of £64.50.
If the person concerned is dissatified with this decision it is open to him to make an appeal to the independent social welfare appeals office and a form for this purpose may be obtained from his social welfare local office.
