Vol. 524 No. 5

Written Answers. - Departmental Staff.

Enda Kenny

Question:

417 Mr. Kenny asked the Minister for Arts, Heritage Gaeltacht and the Islands the level of recruitment, the category to be recruited and the method of recruitment in respect of all staff to be employed at Turlough Park House, Castlebar, County Mayo, for the forthcoming national folklife collection being exhibited there; the timescale for recruitment and interviews; and if she will make a statement on the matter. [22853/00]

In accordance with the Government's commitment to establish a national folklife museum in Turlough Park House, Castlebar, County Mayo, 13 new posts were approved. These posts are in addition to the five posts that currently exist in the folklife division of the National Museum. The 13 new posts are as follows: one keeper-manager; one curator at assistant keeper grade II level; one technical assistant, conservation; one executive officer; nine support staff.

The keeper-manager was recruited through a confined competition which was run by the Civil Service and Local Appointments Commission and the appointment was made on 1 June 1999. The Civil Service and Local Appointments Commission is currently holding a competition to recruit the curator. It is intended to fill the technical assistant position from an existing Civil Service and Local Appointments Commission panel. The recruitment of the executive officer will be carried out in the normal manner by the Civil Service and Local Appointments Commission. The nine support staff will be recruited through open public competition by my Department prior to the opening of the facility to the public in the summer of 2001.

I should also mention for the information of the Deputy that proposals for the creation of five additional posts are currently under consideration.
