Vol. 524 No. 5

Written Answers. - National Monuments.

Enda Kenny

Question:

418 Mr. Kenny asked the Minister for Arts, Heritage Gaeltacht and the Islands the reasons her Department and Dúchas have recommended that a grant allocation be rejected for the National Millennium Committee for the purpose of floodlighting the ancient round tower at Turlough, Castlebar, County Mayo; if her attention has been drawn to the fact that this requirement was voted as the number one priority by the community in respect of improvement of the area; if she will now direct that Dúchas discuss this with the local community and that the grant be accepted and work go ahead; and if she will make a statement on the matter. [22857/00]

My Department has received a request from the Turlough Development Association to floodlight the round tower at Turlough. A final decision has yet to be made on this request. However, I can confirm that as part of the decision-making process my officials will be seeking a meeting with the development association.
