Vol. 524 No. 5

Written Answers. - Industrial Development.

Enda Kenny

Question:

427 Mr. Kenny asked the Minister for Arts, Heritage Gaeltacht and the Islands the meetings that have taken place recently to provide jobs in the Erris area of County Mayo in view of job losses in the region; the proposals being evaluated in this case; the contact that has taken place with the Department of Enterprise, Trade and Employment; and if she will make a statement on the matter. [23332/00]

I refer the Deputy to my reply to Question No. 121 of 5 October and to my reply to the Adjournment debate on this matter in this House on 4 October.

I understand from Údarás na Gaeltachta that efforts are continuing to attract projects to the area in question and that progress has been made in this regard with the approval of two projects in the last few weeks with a job target of 38 jobs.

An official of the Industrial Development Agency – Ireland, which operates under the aegis of the Department of Enterprise, Trade and Employment, is a member of the Belmullet task force to assist that group in its work in general and specifically in relation to the sourcing of foreign investment for the area.
