Vol. 524 No. 5

Written Answers. - Garda Investigations.

Jim Higgins

Question:

444 Mr. Higgins (Mayo) asked the Minister for Justice, Equality and Law Reform if he met with any of the gardaí who have been transferred from County Donegal in the wake of the Garda investigation into the McBrearty case; if so, the name or names of the gardaí involved; and the purpose of any such meeting. [23057/00]

Officials of my Department and of the agencies under the aegis of my Department, such as the Courts Service and the Prisons Service, meet with members of the Garda Síochána as a routine part of their normal duties. I am not in a position to say which gardaí may or may not have met with which official, and I do not think any purpose would be served by pursuing such details.

However, I can say that neither I nor any of my officials has met any of the gardaí in question in the context of the investigation in Donegal.
