John V. Farrelly

Question:

470 Mr. Farrelly asked the Minister for Education and Science the current position with regard to the site for St. Mary's special school, Navan, County Meath; if his attention has been drawn to the fact that the school has been closed since mid-May 2000; when the work will be completed in view of the fact that there are young adults at home since this school was closed; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [22882/00]

My Department has appointed a team of technical consultants to carry out a feasibility study in order to determine the suitability of a number of sites for St. Mary's special school, Navan. The school authorities will be notified of progress as it happens.

Major refurbishment works were carried out at a premises at Johnstown, Navan, in order to provide suitable accommodation for the pupils of St. Mary's pending a more permanent solution. The school recently reopened in this accommodation.
