Question:

506 Mr. Allen asked the Minister for Education and Science the number of hospital schools approved by his Department for children who are hospitalised regularly for lengthy periods of time; the hospitals in which they are located; and the teaching staff in each of these hospitals. [23137/00]

There are a total of six special schools in hospital settings. The locations of the schools in question and the staffing in each are as follows:

In addition to the above hospital schools, part-time teaching hours are made available to the following: Beaumont Hospital, Dublin; St. Joseph's Adolescent Unit, St. Vincent's Hospital, Fairview; Sligo General Hospital.
The level of provision made available in each case depends on the number of children involved; the nature of the illness or disability involved; and the duration of the children's stay in hospital.
