Vol. 524 No. 5

Written Answers. - Defence Forces Accommodation.

David Stanton

Question:

134 Mr. Stanton asked the Minister for Defence if his attention has been drawn to the standard and condition of the accommodation for living-in personnel at the naval base at Haulbowline, County Cork; if his attention has been further drawn to the concerns of the personnel; and the action he will take to improve the accommodation. [22949/00]

Refurbishment works costing £260,000 were carried out last year to improve accommodation needs at the Naval Base, Haulbowline. While there is no provision in this year's estimates for upgrading accommodation at the Naval Base, maintenance works will be carried out by the Corps of Engineers where required and where resources permit. In the five year capital works programme, 2001-2005, provision is being made to upgrade billet accommodation at an estimated cost of £500,000.
