Vol. 524 No. 5

Written Answers. - Defence Forces Training.

Dick Spring

Question:

152 Mr. Spring asked the Minister for Defence the plans he has for the development of career prospects for members of the Permanent Defence Force; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [22999/00]

The issue of developing a new, comprehensive and integrated career development policy in the Defence Forces is currently well advanced as an integral part of the integrated personnel management system, IPMS. The military board which is developing the integrated personnel management system has submitted a second interim report to the general staff in August 2000 and submission of the final draft report is expected at the end of December this year. Implementation of the plan, once approved, will commence in 2001. Concurrent development of a career skills training policy for other ranks personnel which will combine with the integrated personnel management system is ongoing at Defence Force Headquarters level.
