Question:

169 Mr. Finucane asked the Taoiseach the situation regarding the recruitment of co-ordinators for the 2001 census and if he will make a statement on the matter. [23372/00]

The planned fieldforce for the 2001 census of population is set out in the following table:

To date the top two fieldforce tiers have been appointed by the Central Statistics Office, (CSO). Applications have closed for the 350 field supervisor positions and it is planned to hold interviews in early November with a view to appointing successful candidates in January 2001.
All of the supervisory posts on the census are temporary full-time positions which will terminate at the end of June 2001.
Advertising of the enumerator positions will take place in December 2000 through FÁS offices nationwide. Successful candidates will be appointed in March 2001 and will conduct the census fieldwork over a ten week period around census day – 29 April 2001.
