Vol. 524 No. 5

Written Answers. - Pension Provisions.

Pat Rabbitte

Question:

194 Mr. Rabbitte asked the Minister for Public Enterprise if she has received a request from CIE for an amending statutory instrument to allow for an improvement in the gratuity paid under the CIE wages grade pension scheme; if so, when it is expected that the amending statutory instrument will be signed; and if she will make a statement on the matter. [23195/00]

On 23 May 2000 I gave approval for CIE to submit the draft amendment scheme which will result in an improvement in the lump sum gratuity paid to members of the CIE wages grade pension scheme, at retirement.

The draft scheme was received from the company on 9 October and is being examined in my Department at present. Before a final decision is made, a number of statutory provisions must be complied with. While I cannot say at present when the confirmation order will be made, I can assure the Deputy that the matter will be dealt with as expeditiously as possible.
