Vol. 525 No. 2

Written Answers. - Job Creation.

Thomas P. Broughan

Question:

238 Mr. Broughan asked the Tánaiste and Minister for Enterprise, Trade and Employment if she will establish a small taskforce led by FÁS (East Region) to assist the more than 300 northside based workers of a company (details supplied) which collapsed recently to find alternative suitable employment. [24362/00]

The aviation sector in Ireland is in a very buoyant state generally.

Given the state of the sector it was disappointing to hear that this company has gone into liquidation with the loss of such a large number of jobs in Ireland. I can confirm that a liquidator has been appointed and he has been in touch with my Department regarding redundancy payments.

I am confident that the majority of the company's staff based in Ireland will be able to get employment in the aviation sector here within a short period of time if they so wish.

To that end, I can assure the Deputy that the full services of FÁS will be made available to those that require them. Indeed, the FÁS regional director has already been in touch with the company to offer assistance which will enable the employees to find alternative suitable employment. I do not consider the establishment of a special task force to be warranted in these circumstances.
