Vol. 525 No. 2

Written Answers. - Immigration Control.

Jim O'Keeffe

Question:

240 Mr. J. O'Keeffe asked the Tánaiste and Minister for Enterprise, Trade and Employment her views on the many undocumented workers from the United States, South Africa and many other countries outside the European Union working here and paying their taxes for the past number of years; and if she will make a statement on the matter. [24572/00]

My Department is responsible for the issuing of work permits in respect of non-European Economic Area nationals where the jobs concerned cannot be filled by an Irish or other EEA national. I am not aware of any particular problems arising in this respect in relation to the countries mentioned at this time. The general issue of immigration control is, of course, a matter for my colleague, the Minister for Justice, Equality and Law Reform.
