Vol. 525 No. 2

Written Answers. - Special Beef Premium.

Ulick Burke

Question:

299 Mr. U. Burke asked the Minister for Agriculture, Food and Rural Development if, further to Parliamentary Question No. 230 of 24 October 2000, he will outline additional information on the operation of the special beef premium scheme. [23973/00]

As indicated in reply to the earlier question from the Deputy, applicants for special beef premium are required to respect the overall limit of 90 animals per age category raised to 180 animals per age category under Agenda 2000.

Where it comes to the attention of my Department that an individual producer, who has more than one herd number for disease eradication purposes, has exceeded the limit, any moneys overpaid to him or her are recovered. Each case is dealt with on an individual basis but no statistics are maintained in regard to the number of producers who have had to repay money owing to their exceeding the limits.
