Vol. 525 No. 2

Written Answers. - Housing Aid for the Elderly.

Michael Ring

Question:

418 Mr. Ring asked the Minister for Health and Children the reason a person (details supplied) in County Mayo has been refused help to rewire her home in view of the fact that the local authority confirmed in writing that the wiring in the house is in a very dangerous condition and should be attended to immediately and the person's only source of income is a disability allowance and she cannot afford the works; and if he will have an independent investigation carried out to ascertain the reason the Western Health Board has not dealt with this. [23835/00]

The housing aid scheme for the elderly is operated in the County Mayo area by the Western Health Board on behalf of the Department of Environment and Local Government.

I have asked the chief executive officer of the board to examine this case and respond to the Deputy directly, as a matter of urgency.
