518 Mr. Ring asked the Minister for Health and Children when there will be a convalescence and long-term care home for the elderly in Ballinrobe, County Mayo; and the plans he has to allocate funding to this project. [24382/00]

Minister for Health and Children (Mr. Martin):

The Western Health Board has indicated that the provision of a community nursing unit in Ballinrobe, County Mayo is one of its priorities as part of the development of services for older people in the region.

The board has informed me that its technical services department is currently carrying out a feasibility study on two sites which have been identified in the area and the outcome of this study will be known shortly. This proposal will be considered in the context of capital funding available under the national development plan and the Western Health Board's other priority developments.
