Vol. 525 No. 2

Written Answers. - Teenage Maternity Care.

Frances Fitzgerald

Question:

531 Ms Fitzgerald asked the Minister for Health and Children the special maternity and obstetric services available to teenagers. [24396/00]

All women, including teenagers, are eligible for ante-natal and post-natal care, free of charge, under the maternity and infant care scheme. When a woman chooses to avail of services under this scheme she is under the care of both a general practitioner of her choice and a hospital obstetrician. Any special medical care which may be required is provided in the context of this scheme. Furthermore, one of the aims of the scheme is that the requirements of women with special needs are recognised and dealt with as flexibly as possible.
