Written Answers. - Cancer Treatment Services.

Bernard Allen

Question:

571 Mr. Allen asked the Minister for Health and Children if he will make the necessary resources available for the acquisition of a hand- held gamma probe for intra-operative sentinel lymph node marking. [24436/00]

Since the launch of the National Cancer Strategy, dedicated funding of some £41 million has been allocated to health agencies for the development of cancer services. The regional directors of cancer services in each health board area, in conjunction with the chief executive officers of the health boards, have developed plans for cancer services in their respective areas and have been allocated dedicated funding for these developments. If additional or new equipment is required for these services, it would be appropriate for any individual who is involved in the delivery of the services to request such equipment through the chief executive officer of the respective health agency.

Question No. 572 taken with Question No. 451.
