588 Mr. Flanagan asked the Minister for Health and Children if a consultant will be appointed at Portlaoise General Hospital, County Laois; and if he will make a statement in relation to his recent announcement of new appointments in the accident and emergency specialty. [24633/00]
The appointment of consultants in the specialty of accident and emergency is currently being considered in the context of the winter initiative which I announced recently. The Midland Health Board has submitted an application for a post of accident and emergency consultant in Portlaoise General Hospital and it is being considered in this context.
