Vol. 525 No. 2

Written Answers. - Accident and Emergency Services.

Gay Mitchell

Question:

594 Mr. G. Mitchell asked the Minister for Health and Children if he will review the operation of the accident and emergency department of a hospital (details supplied) in Dublin 8 in view of a letter sent to him on the experiences of a person in Dublin 12; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [24672/00]

Question:

632 Dr. Upton asked the Minister for Health and Children if he will have examinations made into the circumstances in a case (details supplied) in relation to admittance to St. James Hospital, Dublin 8. [24857/00]

I propose to take Questions Nos. 594 and 632 together.

The responsibility for the provision of services at St. James's Hospital is a matter for the Eastern Regional Health Authority in the first instance. My Department has asked the regional chief executive of the authority to investigate the matter raised by the Deputies and to reply directly to them as a matter of urgency.
