Vol. 525 No. 2

Written Answers. - Fire Station.

Cecilia Keaveney

Question:

664 Cecilia Keaveney asked the Minister for the Environment and Local Government the current position in relation to a new fire tender for a station (details supplied) in County Donegal; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [24049/00]

My Department assists fire authorities in the provision of a fire service, including the provision of fire appliances, by providing capital grants towards certain expenditure incurred. The distribution of these appliances among its fire stations is a matter for each local fire authority.

In October 1999 I approved a proposal from Donegal County Council to purchase a new fire appliance at a cost of over £165,500, as part of the council's fire appliance replacement programme. The council took delivery of the appliance last month and I understand it is assigning it to Letterkenny fire station. The council also received approval last June, under the fire appliance capital programme for 2000, to invite tenders for a further new fire appliance at an estimated cost of £170,000.

Question:

665 Cecilia Keaveney asked the Minister for the Environment and Local Government the current position in relation to the provision of a new fire station for Moville, County Donegal; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [24050/00]

While the provision of a new fire station in Moville is contained in Donegal County Council's five year fire station replacement programme there is currently no formal application from the council for approval in principle for this project before my Department.

Question:

666 Cecilia Keaveney asked the Minister for the Environment and Local Government the plans he has to provide a training tower for a fire station (details supplied) in County Donegal as had been originally designed; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [24051/00]

On 2 June 1999 my Department approved Donegal County Council's proposal to construct a new fire station in Buncrana. The council's proposal did not include provision for a training tower. However, I understand the council is currently preparing a proposal for submission to my Department for the provision of such a tower.
