669 Mr. Creed asked the Minister for the Environment and Local Government if his Department has transferred responsibility to the Department of Arts, Gaeltacht, Heritage and the Islands for the investment in strategic roads in the Gaeltacht for the duration of the National Development Plan, 2000-06; and if he will make a statement on the matter. Responsibility for the maintenance and improvement of non-national roads in Gaeltacht areas continues to rest with the appropriate local road authorities and grants allocated by my Department reflect the needs of these and other non-national roads within the relevant jurisdiction. In addition, I understand my colleague, the Minister for Arts, Gaeltacht, Heritage and the Islands, has arranged for the allocation of supplementary moneys to certain local authorities in order to assist them with the improvement of non-national roads in Gaeltacht areas.
