Written Answers. - Cultural Activities.

Michael Ring

Question:

768 Mr. Ring asked the Minister for Arts, Heritage Gaeltacht and the Islands the funding that is allocated to her Department from the Exchequer and the amount that is allocated from Europe for cultural developments and cultural events here. [24619/00]

The amount voted – Vote 42 – in 2000 from the Exchequer to my Department in respect of arts and culture activity is £18.9 million. Of this, £700,000 is European regional development funding relating to the cultural development incentive scheme which is part funded by the Operational Programme for Tourism. The funding for the Arts Council is made through Vote 44 which has an Exchequer allocation of £34.5 million in 2000.

The cultural development incentive scheme – CDIS – which was part of the Operational Programme for Tourism 1994-1999, had an overall budget of £19.246 million. Of this amount £17.128 million was made available from the European regional development fund under the Operational Programme for Tourism while the balance of £2.108 million was Exchequer funding.
