774 Mr. Belton asked the Minister for Justice, Equality and Law Reform if he will provide extra funding for CCTV cameras for new areas throughout the country including Longford town to assist local gardaí in their efforts to curb crimes of violence. [23879/00]
There is no record in my Department of any application being received for a Garda CCTV system in Longford town. I have also been advised by the Garda authorities that no application has been received by the advisory committee which was established by the Garda Commissioner to examine CCTV applications for a Garda CCTV system in Longford town.
On a more general note, I have initiated a review of CCTV which is now complete and I expect to make a statement on CCTV in the near future.
