Question:

803 Mr. Naughten asked the Minister for Justice, Equality and Law Reform the status of the countrywide expansion of evidential breath testing; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [24741/00]

I propose to take Questions Nos. 802 and 803 together.

I am informed by the Garda authorities that evidential breath testing now operates at 22 Garda stations throughout the State. It is proposed to extend the system to another two stations by the end of this year. It is anticipated that evidential breath testing will be further extended to more Garda stations in 2001.
