814 Mr. Allen asked the Minister for Tourism, Sport and Recreation the number of appointments to State boards made by him since taking office; if he will give details of each appointment; and the annual payments to each appointee. [23824/00]

Minister for Tourism, Sport and Recreation (Dr. McDaid):

The number of appointments made to State boards by me since I took office; the details of each appointment; and the annual payments to each appointee, are as follows:

Bord Fáilte

Seven appointments have been made by me to the board of Bord Fáilte, none of which are full-time paid positions. A fee and expenses are paid in respect of all appointments.

Appointments to the board of Bord Fáilte are ministerial appointments made with the consent of the Minister for Finance under the Tourism Traffic Acts, 1939-1998.

Irish Sports Council.

Twelve appointments have been made by me to the Irish Sports Council, none of which are full-time paid positions, one in respect of which a fee is paid. Expenses are paid in respect of all appointments.

The board of the Irish Sports Council was appointed on 1 July 1999 for a period not exceeding five years as provided for in the Irish Sports Council Act. All appointments to the board of the Irish Sports Council, which comprises a chairperson and ten ordinary members, are ministerial appointments.
