816 Mr. G. Mitchell asked the Minister for Tourism, Sport and Recreation if, further to Parliamentary Question No. 958 of 3 October 2000, he will review the application of a college (details supplied) in Dublin 6W in view of the points raised in a letter received (details supplied); and if he will make a statement on the matter. The application in question was made in the name of the college only and while there was a reference to joint management committee with a sports club, the application as completed gave no indication that it was a joint application, which is an essential condition clearly set out in the guidelines, terms and conditions which accompanied all application forms.
Under the sports capital programme for 2000, 1,650 applications were received in my Department and 677 projects have been allocated grants this year. Accordingly, the programme for 2000 is now closed but I am planning to announce details of the 2001 programme next month and it will be open to the college in question to apply in accordance with the criteria and conditions stipulated under the programme.
817 Mr. Bell asked the Minister for Tourism, Sport and Recreation if the national sports grant to the IABA has been released to them; when the promised grant to the Holy Family Boxing Club, Ballingrove, Drogheda, County Louth, will issue to them; and if he will make a statement on the matter. The Irish Sports Council was established on a statutory basis on 1 July 1999 and since then the council has responsibility for the administration of the annual grants to the national governing bodies of sport. I understand that following the recent resolution of outstanding issues between the Irish Sports Council and the Irish Amateur Boxing Association the balance of the annual grant for 2000 has now been issued.
In addition, under the 2000 sports capital programme I recently announced grant allocations totalling £324,000 to 64 boxing clubs around the country. Among these was a grant of £30,000 to the Holy Family Boxing Club in Drogheda.
