Vol. 525 No. 2

Written Answers. - School Accommodation.

Gerry Reynolds

Question:

848 Mr. G. Reynolds asked the Minister for Education and Science if he will sanction, as a matter of urgency, the funding necessary to provide eight additional classrooms for Carrick-on-Shannon community school, County Leitrim, as the numbers attending the school has risen from 600 to over 800 in the past two years. [23941/00]

Carrick-on-Shannon community school has requested additional accommodation based on increased demand for pupil places at the school in recent years.

My Department's planning section is currently preparing a long-term enrolment projection on which the school's accommodation requirements will be based. In that connection, Leitrim and Roscommon county councils have been requested to provide details of proposed housing developments in the Carrick-on-Shannon area. As soon as this information is available and all other relevant factors are considered, the enrolment projection for the school will be finalised and the accommodation brief determined.
