Vol. 525 No. 2

Written Answers. - Psychological Service.

Rory O'Hanlon

Question:

851 Dr. O'Hanlon asked the Minister for Education and Science when a person (details supplied) in County Monaghan will have a educational psychological assessment; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [24003/00]

The National Educational Psychological Service Agency, NEPS, is currently engaged in a project that involves all national schools in County Monaghan. All remedial teachers in the county have received training in the administration and scoring of group tests of intelligence and of attainments. They are now about to administer the tests in schools. When this phase of the project has been completed, each remedial teacher will have an extended consultation with one of the NEPS psychologists. This will include discussion on children about whom concerns have been expressed and advice will be offered on educational programmes and behavioural management. If necessary, individual psychological consultations will be arranged for some of the children.

The child named by the Deputy would be included in this project and will be offered the appropriate educational psychological assessment in the course of the project.
