Vol. 525 No. 2

Written Answers. - School Accommodation.

Liam Lawlor

Question:

865 Mr. Lawlor asked the Minister for Education and Science if, in the context of his Department's examination of an available site and further to Parliamentary Question No. 257 of 29 June 2000, he will urgently advance proposals for the provision of an additional second-level school in the Lucan, County Dublin, area in view of the fact that the local community college is now compelled to allocate places on a lottery basis due to the volume of applications. [24238/00]

A site for a post-primary school has, at my Department's request, been reserved in the Adamstown area, by South Dublin County Council to meet anticipated need in the area.

As soon as details of the extent and pace of housing development and projected population growth are obtained from South Dublin County Council and examined in my Department, a decision will be made on the need for additional post-primary provision in the area.
