Vol. 525 No. 2

Written Answers. - Psychological Service.

Brian O'Shea

Question:

885 Mr. O'Shea asked the Minister for Education and Science if he will arrange to have an educational psychological assessment carried out on a four and a half year old person (details supplied) in County Waterford; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [24273/00]

The National Educational Psychological Service Agency, NEPS, is the executive agency of my Department with responsibility for the provision of an educational psychological service, including individual psychological assessments, to primary and post-primary schools and other centres recognised by my Department. Since the school this person attends is not recognised by my Department, NEPS cannot provide an assessment for the person named by the Deputy. In such cases, the request for a psychological assessment should be directed to the relevant health board.
