Vol. 525 No. 2

Written Answers. - Psychological Service.

Bernard J. Durkan

Question:

887 Mr. Durkan asked the Minister for Education and Science when an educational psychologist will be made available to provide an educational assessment of a person (details supplied) in County Kildare; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [24275/00]

The school referred to by the Deputy does not yet have access to the services of the National Educational Psychological Service, NEPS. Following discussions with representatives of the health boards, it has been agreed that referrals for urgent psychological assessments of pupils in schools which have not yet access to NEPS services should be directed to the relevant health board.

Willie Penrose

Question:

888 Mr. Penrose asked the Minister for Education and Science if he has received a request from the board of management of Gainstown national school, Mullingar, County Westmeath, for additional accommodation which is urgently required at this expanding school; when this much needed accommodation will be provided; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [24276/00]

I can confirm that my Department has recently received a request from the management authorities of Gainstown national school for the provision of improved accommodation.

My Department has arranged to have an application form forwarded to the board of management. As soon as the completed form is returned to the building unit the case will be dealt with as quickly as possible having regard to the large volume of school building projects on hand within my Department at present.

Question No. 889 taken with Question No. 831.
