Question:

210 Mr. O'Shea asked the Minister for Health and Children if he will immediately sanction a replacement consultant oncologist post in order that the current consultant oncologist can be replaced without any break when he leaves in June 2001; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [24285/00]

I propose to take Questions Nos. 191 and 210 together.

The provision of services in this instance is the responsibility of the South Eastern Health Board. Approval to the filling of a replacement consultant oncologist post was conveyed to the South Eastern Health Board on 21 September 2000. The recruitment of consultants is a matter for individual health boards. The application from the board for an additional oncologist post will be considered in the context of service developments for 2001.
