Vol. 525 No. 3

Written Answers. - Waste Management.

Ivan Yates

Question:

271 Mr. Yates asked the Minister for the Environment and Local Government if he will introduce a new initiative whereby local authorities would collect specified individual types of waste for recycling through local authorities and the private sector in given areas, such as specific types of glass, metals or plastics. [24913/00]

Current and proposed regional waste management plans incorporate proposals for household segregation and separate collection of organic waste and dry recyclables in urban areas, an extended network of "bring" facilities in rural areas, typically with a target density of one facility per 500 population, an increased network of civic amenity sites and waste transfer stations.

A segregated household collection service for recyclables is currently being extended throughout the Dublin region, and will progressively be provided by or on behalf of local authorities in other regions, in accordance with their waste management plans.

Question No. 272 taken with Question No. 103.
