Vol. 525 No. 3

Written Answers. - National Water Authority.

Ivan Yates

Question:

297 Mr. Yates asked the Minister for the Environment and Local Government the proposals he has to establish a national water authority to give quicker delivery of certain types of sanitary service provision under the public capital programme along the lines of the National Roads Authority. [24967/00]

In the context of the preparation of a new water services Bill I am giving consideration to the management and regulatory structures which would best contribute to the provision of water services on a sustainable and cost effective basis. As part of this exercise my Department is examining what role a national water services authority might play. I expect this process to be concluded early next year.
