297 Mr. Yates asked the Minister for the Environment and Local Government the proposals he has to establish a national water authority to give quicker delivery of certain types of sanitary service provision under the public capital programme along the lines of the National Roads Authority. In the context of the preparation of a new water services Bill I am giving consideration to the management and regulatory structures which would best contribute to the provision of water services on a sustainable and cost effective basis. As part of this exercise my Department is examining what role a national water services authority might play. I expect this process to be concluded early next year.
