Vol. 525 No. 3

Written Answers. - Taxi Regulations.

Ivan Yates

Question:

312 Mr. Yates asked the Minister for the Environment and Local Government if he will give priority to hackney drivers in relation to the issuing of new taxi licences across the country, in view of their experience and track record in the sector and to avoid a situation whereby extra plates issued to existing licensed taxi operators may not be fully utilised; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [24990/00]

As stated in reply to Question Nos. 103, 149 and 172 today's Order Paper, detailed examination and analysis of the recent High Court decision is now taking place as a matter or urgency in my Department with a view to providing a workable basis for the resumption of new taxi licensing.
