Vol. 525 No. 3

Written Answers. - Regional Gateways.

Rory O'Hanlon

Question:

401 Dr. O'Hanlon asked the Minister for Tourism, Sport and Recreation if he will designate the Phoenix Centre, Carrickmacross, County Monaghan as one of the sport and recreational regional gateways, proposed for the border midland and western region in the National Development Plan; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [25152/00]

It is intended that the selection of projects for support under the recreation and sports facilities sub-measure of the BMW regional operational programme will take account of the needs of the regional gateways, which will be identified in the national spatial strategy which is being undertaken by my colleague the Minister for the Environment and Local Government. Applications for support will not be invited until such time as the national spatial strategy has been launched, and the operational programme, approved and announced.
