Vol. 525 No. 3

Written Answers. - Appointments to Semi-State Bodies.

Phil Hogan

Question:

180 Mr. Hogan asked the Minister for Public Enterprise if it is her policy that chief executive officers of commercial State-sponsored bodies, under her aegis, should be appointed to the board of directors of such bodies; and, if so, the plans she has to appoint the chief executive officer of Aer Lingus to the board of that company. [25140/00]

I refer the Deputy to the reply given by my colleague the Minister for Finance to his Question No. 53 on 26 October 2000, a copy of which I will forward to him.

It is the policy of my Department that, other than in exceptional circumstances, the chief executives of the State-sponsored bodies under the aegis of the Department should be appointed to the boards of their respective bodies.

In the case of Aer Lingus Group plc, the new chief executive has been appointed to the board with effect from 11 September 2000.
