Vol. 525 No. 4

Written Answers. - School Transport.

Liam Aylward

Question:

145 Mr. Aylward asked the Minister for Education and Science if he has yet received a report from Bus Éireann in relation to school transport for persons (details supplied) in County Carlow; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [25265/00]

The position is that the provision of a school transport service in this case was previously turned down by my Department on the basis that there was not a sufficient number of eligible pupils to establish a service.

I have asked the school transport section of my Department to review the matter and the Deputy will be informed of the outcome as soon as possible.

I wish to inform the Deputy that improved school transport services have been sanctioned by my Department for the families concerned.

Bus Éireann has been informed and I understand that the necessary arrangements, to implement the decision, have been put in place by their local office.
