Vol. 525 No. 4

Written Answers. - Pension Provisions.

Brendan Kenneally

Question:

149 Mr. Kenneally asked the Minister for Education and Science the plans he has to put a retirement package in place for school bus drivers who are driving Bus Éireann buses; his views as to whether or not such a scheme is desirable; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [25269/00]

Bus Éireann operates the school transport scheme on behalf of my Department. It is responsible for the day-to-day operation of the scheme and for the recruitment of drivers. Accordingly, pension arrangements for these drivers are a matter for Bus Éireann.

I understand, however, that this matter has been the subject of detailed negotiations, which have yet to be concluded, with the trade unions who represent the drivers.
