Written Answers. - National Health Promotion Forum.

Liam Lawlor

Question:

101 Mr. Lawlor asked the Minister for Health and Children the current status of the National Health Promotion Forum which he has undertaken to chair; if he has invited representatives of the various interests and sectors to participate; if he will take the forum to different locations around the country to facilitate public consultation; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [25324/00]

The National Health Promotion Strategy 2000-2005 which was published in July this year recommends that a national health promotion forum be established under the chairmanship of the Minister for Health and Children to facilitate an inter sectoral approach to addressing the major determinants of health.

The membership of the forum is being considered at the moment but will be widely representatitve. It is expected that the forum will be established early next year and decisions on how the forum will conduct its business will be made at that time.
