Vol. 525 No. 4

Written Answers. - Departmental Properties.

Austin Currie

Question:

134 Mr. Currie asked the Minister for Arts, Heritage Gaeltacht and the Islands if she will give consideration to the purchase by the State of 33 acres (details supplied) adjacent to Lucan Demesne, County Dublin, already in public ownership, for the further development of a regional park; and if she will make a statement on the matter. [25297/00]

As the Deputy is aware, Lucan Demesne was acquired by my Department in 1996 with the objective of establishing a Liffey Valley park, to be owned and managed on a co-operative basis by the three local authorities concerned vis-à-vis Fingal, Kildare and South Dublin, on the basis of an agreed management plan. In addition, my Department secured development funding for the park amounting to £3.75 million over a five year period. Any proposal for further extension of the park is a matter for the relevant local authorities.
